With a 120-MHz internal bandwidth and a frequency range from 250 kHz to 3 GHz (6 GHz optional), the MG3700A arbitrary waveform generator (ARB) sets it sights on 3.5G applications including HSDPA and emerging 4G technologies. The instrument packs 1 GB of memory (256 Msamples per channel) that can be doubled via a dual-memory option. This option allows generating two separate signals at the same time, as well as combining memories to generate more complex signals. It also accommodates simultaneous Rx testing using different signals, as well as simulating Tx diversity or signal fading. Other ARB features include a 0.01 dB resolution in all output level ranges, built-in 20 Mb/s BER analyzer, an output accuracy of ±0.5 dB, 40 GB hard-disk drive, and compatibility with IVI and LabVIEW drivers. Standard signal-pattern files include W-CDMA, GSM, EDGE, 1xRTT, 1xEV-DO, and AWGN with additional standards available as options. An optional software package, IQproducer, generates custom signal patterns such as HSDPA, TDMA, WiMax, WPAN, and OFDM. Price for the MG3700A starts at $30,565.
