0.5-A MOSFET Drivers Come In Miniature Packages

Staff  |   ED Online ID #16496  |   August 22, 2007

The inverting MCP1401 and the non-inverting MCP1402 single-output MOSFET drivers are rated for a peak output current of 0.5 A over a wide operating range of 4.5 to 18 V. Developed by Microchip Technology Inc., the devices have excellent latch-up immunity and are available in miniature 2- by 3-mm DFN and five-pin SOT-23 packages.

The small package size allows designers to position the gate driver close to the MOSFET's physical gate connection, which minimizes gate bounce caused by the parasitic pc-board layout. It also minimizes gate rise- and fall-times, propagation-delay times, and shoot-though current, all of which helps to increase system efficiency and reduce power dissipation.

In the DFN package, the MCP1401 and MCP1402 cost $0.55 each in quantities of 10,000. In the SOT-23 package, the devices cost $0.50 each in similar quantities. Samples are available today from http://sample.microchip.com. Volume production orders can be placed at www.microchipdirect.com. For more information, go to www.microchip.com.
