The AS1542 is a 16-channel successive-approximation analog-to-digital converter with 12-bit resolution on each channel. The 1-Msample/s speed and high channel count make the ADC well-suited for networking equipment, motor control, industrial automation, wired and wireless communication, and all forms of digital communication. At the 1-Msample/s conversion speed, the AS1542 uses less than 2.4 mA, while in automatic shutdown mode the supply current drops to less than 0.5 µA. The inputs are software configurable as 16-channel single-ended or 8-channel fully differential analog inputs. Additionally, a sequencer and channel counter allow continuous or single conversions on selected channels without further user input and interruption of conversion while reprogramming the converter. This allows the user to alter the channel selection while the sequence is in progress. The device runs on a single 2.7- to 5.25-V supply and contains a Vdrive (interface drive voltage) function that enables the serial interface to connect directly to either a 3- or 5-V processor system independent of the ADC’s supply voltage. The converter can be interfaced via a high-speed SPI/QSPI/Microwave or DSP interface. AUSTRIAMICROSYSTEMS, Unterpremstaetten, Austria. +43 (0) 3136 500 5274.
