Reporting higher immunity to environmental factors and 50% lower power consumption than currently available devices for touch-control applications, the programmable AD7142 capacitance-to-digital converter (CDC) provides 14 channels and a 16-bit resolution. Operating from a 2.7V to 3.3V supply, operating power consumption is less than 1 mA and shutdown current is less than 2 µA. Employing the company’s advanced capacitance sensor core, the device automatically adjusts to fast changing climatic conditions and can be programmed for a variety of sensor configurations, including finger-driven scroll bars, 8-way position sensors and scroll wheels. The core also performs continuous, digital calibration that is transparent to the user, eliminating false or non-registered touches. Other features include a choice of SPI or I2C interfaces. Residing in a 32-lead, 5 mm x 5 mm package, price is $1.09 each in high volume. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Wilmington, MA. (800) 262-5643.
