16-Bit Delta-Sigma ADC Touted As Being Industry’s Smallest

Aug. 1, 2002
Introduced as the industry’s smallest SOT23-6, 16-bit delta-sigma A/D converter and a member of the company’s Burr-Brown product line, the ADS1100 is a continuously self-calibrating device featuring differential inputs, 16-bit resolution

Introduced as the industry’s smallest SOT23-6, 16-bit delta-sigma A/D converter and a member of the company’s Burr-Brown product line, the ADS1100 is a continuously self-calibrating device featuring differential inputs, 16-bit resolution with no missing codes, and power consumption of only 250 µW. Communication is via an I2C interface. The converter operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V power supply and features conversion rates of 8, 16, 32, or 128 samples/s with respective resolutions of 16, 15, 14 and 12 bits. An on-chip programmable gain amplifier provides gains as high as eight. The device automatically powers down after a conversion, reducing power consumption to less than 0.15 µW. Price of ADS1100 ADC is $1.75 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
