ADC Noise Figures Improve Measurement Accuracy

Feb. 5, 2013
Intersil’s ISL26102 and ISL26104 24-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) claim an impressive noise figure of less than 8 nV/√Hz at 128x gain, which applies to their entire output word rate range from 2.5 to 4000 SPS.

Intersil’s ISL26102 and ISL26104 24-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) claim an impressive noise figure of less than 8 nV/√Hz at 128x gain, which applies to their entire output word rate range from 2.5 to 4000 SPS. They also offer an on-chip ultra-low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA). The wide PGA gain range facilitates direct connection to load cells, thermocouples, and other popular sensors with a wide variety of sensitivities. The devices provide two-channel and four-channel input multiplexers, respectively, and are designed for instrumentation such as weighing systems and temperature monitoring and control. They enable designers of these precision instruments to digitise small signals from low-cost sensors without the added cost and complexity of external amplifiers and signal conditioning circuits. Additionally, they dissipate just 50 mW during conversions and feature a 1-μA shutdown mode.
