The ADS5546 a/d converter comes on the scene sporting merit badges for small size, high speed, dynamic performance, and low total power dissipation. For starts, the 14-bit device debuts in a 48-pin QFN package measuring 7 mm x 7 mm and delivers a 190-Msample/s data rate. The device specifies a 73.2-dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and an 84-dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at its maximum sample rate with an input frequency of 70 MHz. Additionally, it operates from a single 3.3V supply and consumes a total power of 1.1W in operation over a temperature range from -40°C to 85°C. Other features include programmable power scaling and selectable output timing and level controls. Sampling now with production expected in the second quarter of 2006, price for the ADS5546 is $72.50 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
