ADCs Target Power-Line-Monitoring Systems

The 16-bit, eight-channel AD7606 and 14-bit, eight-channel AD7607 simultaneous sampling analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) feature a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 dB. Also available in six- and four-channel versions, the devices simplify the design of next-generation power-line-monitoring systems. Their multichannel capability facilitates three-phase current and voltage measurement and neutral monitoring in substation equipment. The ADCs operate on a 5-V analog supply and a 1.8- to 5-V logic supply. They integrate a front end, anti-alias filter with high input impedance and input clamping to ±16.5 V. In addition, an internal reference and a reduced decoupling capacitor requirement provide a higher level of integration than found in alternative solutions. The converters offer true bipolar analog input ranges of ±5 V and ±10 V, which preserve phase information while sampling bipolar voltages and currents over a wide dynamic range. The fastest throughput rate is 200 ksamples/s. The AD7606 and AD7607 come in 64-lead low-profile quad flat packages and are sampling now. The AD7606 costs $23.10, and the AD7607 costs $18.48 each in quantities of 1000. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643.
