Ready for high-end audio applications, the two-channel MAX9708 class D amplifier operates with an efficiency of 87%, making it capable of delivering up to 20W per channel continuous without a heatsink. A mono-mode option enables it to deliver 40W continuous into a 4Ω speaker, making it a viable sub-woofer driver. The device operates without a filter and with few external components, the result of proprietary spread-spectrum-modulation technology. It also integrates unique features such as a pin-programmable thermal flag, click-and-pop suppression, and four selectable gain settings. Other features include short-circuit and thermal-overload protection and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Available in 64-pin TQFP and 56-pin TQFN packages, price starts at $3.30 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800
