CMOS Optocouplers Set CMR Benchmark

Oct. 8, 2008
In addition to reducing package capacitance by more than 30%, the FOD0708 single-channel and FOD0738 dual-channel CMOS optocouplers set a level for common-mode noise rejection (CMR) at 25 kV/µs, reportedly 250% higher than comparable devices.

In addition to reducing package capacitance by more than 30%, the FOD0708 single-channel and FOD0738 dual-channel CMOS optocouplers set a level for common-mode noise rejection (CMR) at 25 kV/µs, reportedly 250% higher than comparable devices. They deliver a bandwidth of 15 Mb/s, making them suitable for industrial-strength tasks, and operate in temperatures from -40°C to 100°C. Both devices employ a push-pull detector that eliminates the need for a pull-up resistor. Relying on proprietary 0.8-µm CMOS technology, other shared features include a side-by-side optoplanar configuration and proprietary silicon design on the detector, common-mode immunity of 50 kV/µs, 2.5 KVRMS isolation, and UL certification. Prices for the FOD0708 and FOD0738 are $2.83 and $1.45 each/1,000, respectively. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR CORP. South Portland, ME. (800) 341-0392.
