DC/DC Converters Boast 95% Power Efficiency

Feb. 1, 2003
Providing up to 95% power conversion efficiency, the TPS6205x family of synchronous dc/dc converters accept input voltages from 2.7V to 10V and deliver an output current up to 800 mA. Their 12 µA of quiescent current promise a longer standby

Providing up to 95% power conversion efficiency, the TPS6205x family of synchronous dc/dc converters accept input voltages from 2.7V to 10V and deliver an output current up to 800 mA. Their 12 µA of quiescent current promise a longer standby time, making them viable for use in devices that use one- to two-cell Li-Ion or two- to six-cell NiMH, NiCd, or alkaline batteries. The converters integrate FETs and generate output voltages ranging from 0.7V to 6V. Other features include operation at 850 kHz, PFM and PWM modes, a 100% duty cycle maximum, power-good and low-battery detection, and they can be synchronized to external clock frequencies from 600 kHz to 1.2 MHz. In shutdown mode, the current consumption is reduced to less than 2 µA. Operating temperature range is from -40°C to +85°C. Available in 10-pin MSOPs, price is $1.74 each/1,000.
