The EL7900 light-to-current optical sensor integrates a photodiode and a current amplifier within a compact, 5-lead, lead-free ODFN package. Operating in a wide range of lighting conditions from 1 lux to 10,000 lux, the sensor provides a current output that is convertible to a voltage with an external resistor. Sensing ambient light from 380 nm to 770 nm, its output current is directly proportional to the light intensity on the photodiode, enabling a peak response of 540 nm, a figure close to the peak sensitivity of the human eye. Providing the same linear response and wavelength sensitivity as the EL7900, the ISL29000 sensor exhibits a lower power consumption, making it suitable for portable designs. Both devices operate from a 2.5V to 5.5V supply and in temperatures from -40°C to +85°C. Price for the EL7900 is $0.70 each/1,000. INTERSIL CORP., Milpitas, CA. (888) 352-6832
