By employing simultaneously sampled dual inputs and single or dual 8-bit buses with one analog-to-digital converter core, the THS0842 A/D converter operates at twice the sampling rate to internally multiplex the two inputs, thereby reducing the number of mismatched errors compared to the use of two separate ADCs. The 8-bit, 40-MSPS converter enables designers to closely match conversions from two channels in products involving simultaneous In-phase and Quadrature (I & Q) baseband sampling, such as in wireless local loop systems, cable modems, and test instruments.
The 3.3V THS0842 ADC dissipates only 275 mW, with power consumption being reduced to a miniscule 11 mW in the device's stand-by power mode. Other features include a 600-MHz analog input bandwidth, 52-dB spurious free dynamic range, and 44-dB signal-to-noise ratio when sampling a 20-MHz input signal. In a 48-pin QFP, the ADC costs $3.94 each/1000.
