HARRISBURG, Pa., March 20, 2006 - Tyco Electronics today announced the new MINIPAK HD connector designed to carry high density power and signal as required in the developing MicroTCA Standard. The MINIPAK HD connector is designed to carry 280 Amps of current plus 72 signal contacts in a space of just 65mm X 27mm. The connector delivers current density exceeding 170 Amps per square inch and is designed to meet the output requirements of the Power Entry Module for the MicroTCA Standard.

"Tyco Electronics' MINIPAK HD connectors feature a popular hot-pluggable contact design to minimize contact damage during live mating and unmating cycles," comments Mike Blanchfield, global product manager for MINIPAK HD connectors.

The MINIPAK HD connector utilizes a flat-rock seating design for the compliant press-fit vertical receptacle. The mating right angle plug utilizes solder tails designed to accommodate pcbs from 0.062" to 0.093" thick. Tyco Electronics' MINIPAK HD connectors are RoHS compliant.

Samples and literature for Tyco Electronics' MINIPAK HD connectors are available through Tyco Electronics Sales Representatives. Prices for 1000 piece quantities of the right angle plug and vertical receptacle are $9.76 and $7.61, respectively.
