Flash Microcontroller Provides Protection Features

The ST10F168 flash-memory microcontroller chip includes features to protect the embedded flash memory from code read-out or system errors, such as a loss of clock signal. Dedicated firmware, called ST embedded application kernel (STEAK), manages flash-memory programming and provides protection against system errors, as well as protection against unauthorized access to embedded software. The STEAK is located in an area of system memory and occupies no space in memory provided for user firmware.
The device integrates the company's ST10, 16-bit microcontroller core, peripherals selected specifically for the automotive and industrial market, 256 KB of flash, 2 KB of dual-port RAM, and 6 KB of standard RAM. Samples are available now and are priced at $25 each/1000.
