Automotive microcontroller operations manager Ray Cornyn said Freescale Semiconductor is shipping 16-bit S12 automotive microcontrollers at a rate of more than 100 million units per year, with a defect rate of less than one part-per-million. The devices are used in body electronics applications.
Cornyn said Freescale has begun sampling the FlexRay-enabled MC9S12XF MCU family to selected automotive manufacturers for embedded nodes on FlexRay networks in body, chassis and safety applications.
