Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. has introduced the TX4961XBG-240 a 64-bit RISC processor with an integrated graphics and display controller.

Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. has introduced the TX4961XBG-240, a 64-bit RISC processor with an integrated graphics and display controller. The part targets applications that combine general-purpose computing with real-time graphics displays, including driver information systems, car infotainment systems and car navigation systems.

The TX4961XBG-240 system-on-chip integrates a 64-bit “MIPS-based” RISC CPU, TX49/H3, with a graphics display controller that includes a 2-D hardware graphics accelerator and a video frame grabber. “By offloading the graphics, display and video functions to dedicated hardware, the full power of the processor is available for application-specific processing," said Shardul Kazi, vice president of the Toshiba America’s ASSP business unit. Kazi said the SoC is optimized for automotive dashboard displays that combine an instrumentation display with navigation information and video.

The TX4961XBG-240 features an on-board DDR SDRAM controller, unified memory architecture, and multiple on-chip buses to ensure sufficient bandwidth for each on-chip subsystem. It includes AC-Link and I2C controllers; timers and high-speed serial ports; a 10-bit A/D converter, 16-bit PWM outputs; GPIO ports, and CANbus and Media-LB interfaces with DMA, interrupt, external bus and NAND Flash controllers.
