Ultra-D 3D TV: “We Don’t Need No Stinking Glasses”

Aug. 15, 2012
Stream TV Networks has announced a technology partnership with Hisense to create a line of televisions and other products featuring Ultra-D technology.

For reasons unknown, the display market has been telling consumers for some time now that they really need 3D televisions in their homes. After all, how can one enjoy any viewing experience unless the characters jump out of one’s TV and, at the very least, offer to make the viewer a snack? That could be an interesting proposition if one where watching an episode of Criminal Minds or A Little Shop of Horrors (I was actually going to cite another movie here, but …..).

At any rate, one of the stumbling blocks in the 3D movie/TV experience has been the need for special, though not expensive, eyeglasses. In the past, these glasses where literally made of cardboard and color-tinted cellophane. Lately, the better ones are actually made of plastic and something that kind of resembles tinted glass. In either case, wearing these glasses for viewing 3D content has always been an annoyance at best and worse for those folks needing to wear real glasses under the 3D glasses. What’s an OEM to do?

Here’s one solution, Stream TV Networks has announced a technology partnership with Hisense to create a line of televisions and other products featuring Ultra-D technology, which eliminates the need for those cumbersome eye-nosaurs.

Ultra-D technology allows users to view 3D content without having to wear special glasses.

First fruit of the partnership will be a 42-inch 1080p autostereoscopic 3D display. Ultra-D televisions will also include a SeeCube Auto Converter Box that seamlessly auto converts 2D and 3D stereoscopic media that requires glasses into a glasses-free, autostereoscopic 3D format in real-time. Ultra-D supports almost every video feed format including cable and satellite TV channels, Blu-ray, XBOX, PS3, and media websites such as Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. Yes, there is more, Ultra-D technology can convert content from iPad, iTunes, Appstore, and Apple TV.

Mathu Rajan, CEO of Stream TV Networks, sums it all up stating, “Ultra-D is the first 3D-without-glasses solution that has been able to eliminate viewing angles and offer the high quality, glasses-free 3D experience we’ve all been waiting for. We have received positive feedback that Ultra-D is the only 3D without glasses developed that is ready for the consumer market.”

Stream TV Networks will be displaying Ultr-D technology plus new displays and devices atIFA 2012 in Berlin, August 31, 2012 through September 5, 2012, in Hall 25, Stand 134. Be sure to leave your glasses home. ~MD
