The KX1001 10-Gb/s, copper-media transceiver provides up to 25 meters of reach on structured copper cabling, a distance said to cover more than 90% of the interconnect cable lengths currently deployed in data centers. The transceiver is expected accelerate market adoption of 10 Gb/s connectivity by reducing the overall cost of implementation, training, and maintenance while meeting reach and latency needs. Consuming less than 3.7W, the device can be used in X2, XPAK, and XENPAK modules. It supports an industry-standard XAUI interface on the system side as well as management data I/O registers as per IEEE 802.3 and synchronous and/or asynchronous operation. Available in a 14 mm x 14 mm, 256 FBGA package, the transceiver sells for $60 each/1,000. Design support includes a module reference design, evaluation board, and application notes.
