The SIL10 series of ultra-efficient, 10-A point-of-load (POL) converters includes models capable of 95% conversion efficiency. The dc-dc converters' high efficiency and compact size generate an industry-leading power density figure of 107 W/in3. They're targeted for use in designs that require a small footprint and high-reliability power sources that operate over a wide temperature range. Telecommunications and data communication applications include optical networks and wireless infrastructure components.

The non-isolated converter family includes eight fixed-output models and one wide-output trim model. Designed for use with standard 3.3- and 5.0-V on-board bus levels, they employ a synchronous buck topology with fixed-frequency switching and ultra-low on-resistance MOSFETs. The fixed-output converters offer voltages of 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5, or 3.3 V and accommodate any input voltage in the range of 3.0 to 5.5 V. The wide-output trim model requires a 4.5- to 5.5-V input, and its output can be adjusted from 0.8 to 3.6 V using a single resistor.

All SIL10 converters use an open-frame, single-board construction to minimize weight and simplify thermal management. They provide remote sense and remote on/off functions as well as protection against overtemperature, undervoltage, and short-circuit conditions. None of the converters has a minimum load requirement. They also are constructed entirely of surface-mount components and accommodate fully automated assembly. Designed for through-hole board mounting, all are compatible with pin-in-hole reflow (PIHR) processes. Compatibility with these processes allows manufacturers to simplify production or move toward processes that are more environmentally friendly by eliminating wave soldering.

To simplify design-in, the converters are available with a choice of vertical or horizontal package orientation. The horizontal-mounting version measures 2.0 by 0.5 in. with an above-board height of 0.32 in. The vertical-mounting version provides single-in-line connections and measures 2.0 by 0.31 in. with an above-board height of 0.5 in. They operate from -40°C to 85°C. In 10,000-unit quantities, the SIL10 POL converters cost $11.90 each.
