Debuting as economical versions of existing H8 devices, the H8 Value Series microcontrollers target cost-critical applications such as GPS receivers, emission text equipment, label printers, touchscreen controllers, and bar code scanners. The MCUs operate at frequencies up to 2 MHz with a minimum instruction execution time of 40 ns for the H8S series and 80 ns for the H8/300H series. They include a choice of 4 KB or 8 KB of RAM and 128 KB of either flash or mask ROM. To further address cost concerns, the devices are available in various operating voltage ranges: from 3V to 3.6V for the H8S and H8/300H devices and from 4.5V to 5.5V for some of the H8/300H MCUs. Features common to each series include an 85-channel data transfer controller (DTC), a 4-channel DMA controller, a variety of timers, 16-bit programmable pulse generator, a/d and d/a converters, and a smart card interface. Volume prices for the HD64F3062BFBL25L (QFP-100), HD64F2317VTEBL25 (TQFP-100), HD64F2327BVFBL25 QFP-128), and HD64F2337VFCBL25 (QFP-144) with 128 KB of ROM are $3.99, $4.99, $5.99, and $7.55 each, respectively. Development kits with evaluation board, JTAG emulator, and software tools start at $399. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA, INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 433-1990.
