A/D Converter Offers Low-Cost Alternative

Nov. 1, 2001

Introduced as a low-cost, 100-pin MQFP version of the companyÕs FMS9884A triple eight-bit graphics digitizer a/d converter, the FMS9874A is designed for digitizing RGB inputs for flat-panel displays, LCD projectors, video walls, and other graphics display systems. The data output is a single CMOS-compatible, 24-bit parallel digital port rated at either a 100 or 140 MHz clock rate. Functionality of the FMS9874A is identical to the FMS9884A, with the exception of the elimination of one 24-bit output port. The device accepts VGA, SVGA, XGA, and SXGA RGB graphics, with resolutions up to 1,024 x 768 at 85 Hz; 1,280 x 1,024 at 60 Hz; or 1,600 x 1,200 at 75 Hz using alternative pixel sampling. Features include programmable input clamps, adjustable input gain and offset, an SMBus serial interface for register setup, and an on-board voltage reference. The sampling clock can be derived from an external source or from a PLL locked to the incoming horizontal sync signal. Prices for the 100 MHz and 140 MHz versions are $6.50 and $7.78, respectively, each/1,000. For more information, call FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (888) 522-5372.
