The KAT4000 configurable AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade packs four AdvancedMC (AMC) expansion sites and features a switched fabric with support for Gigabit Ethernet and PCI Express. It employs a modular fat-pipe design that supports future upgrades for Serial RapidIO and 10-Gigabit Ethernet. The board also features IPMI system management, an optional Freescale 8548 management processor, and a multi-channel PICMG 3.1-compliant, ATCA interface with an aggregate bandwidth to 8 Gb/s. Supporting all standard AMC modules, a fully configured blade can host up to four modules. The control/management plane, available with the optional management-processor complex that includes up to 2 GB of DDR2 DRAM and 1 GB of NAND flash memory, employs separate Gigabit Ethernet and PCI Express switches. The fat-pipe switch connects each AMC site to the ATCA fabric, while a single Gigabit Ethernet channel links each AMC site with the switch, which uses two Gigabit Ethernet channels to access the fabric.
