Backplane Equalizer/Re-Driver Serves Dual-Channel SDI Systems

Sept. 15, 2009

The M21004 dual-channel backplane equalizer and re-driver IC is optimized for serial digital interface (SDI) applications in the broadcast video market. The device offers excellent jitter performance and typical power consumption per channel of less than 50 mW. Each independent channel features pin-configurable input equalization and output de-emphasis, enabling the device to compensate for losses accumulated across long traces and connectors. In addition, an integrated, non-blocking 2x2 crosspoint switch provides the functions of signal splitting, switching, and multiplexing within the same small form factor. The CMOS device may be powered from supplies between 1.2 V and 3.3 V and features universal direct coupled (DC) input interfaces, as well as independent input and output supply rails, eliminating the need for additional level shifters on the board. Each independent channel can operate at any data rate up to 3.2 Gbps. The M21004 is available for sampling, with production scheduled for fourth quarter of 2009. It is priced at $6.75 each in lots of 1000 for a 4-mm x 4-mm, 24-pin QFN package. MINDSPEED TECHNOLOGIES INC., Newport Beach, CA. (949) 579-3000.
