Designed specifically for Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) applications and announced as an enhanced version of the company's VSC210 baseboard management controller, the VSC215 supports both X-bus and low-pin count system interfaces. The device promises a very efficient block-transfer interface, as well as KCS and SMIC logical interfaces.
Three integrated general-purpose UARTs and four I2C serial interfaces allow direct attachment to the intelligent-chassis and platform-management buses. In addition, the device provides on-chip fan speed monitoring and PWM control, an eight-input 10-bit A/D converter, and up to 50 I/O pins.
A software development kit, SDK, is claimed to simplify implementation by providing quick development of IPMI firmware and the personality module for use by the on-chip RISC processor. Offered in a 144-pin PQFP, the device costs $15.60 each/1000.
