Focusing on reducing system costs, power consumption, complexity, and time to market, the BF512, BF514, BF516, and BF518 represent the latest additions to the Blackfin processor family. All four members are single-core convergent processors that reportedly surpass heterogeneous MCU+DSP approaches in reducing part counts, system cost, board space, and power consumption. The devices are available with clock speeds up to 400 MHz (800 MMACS) and include 116 KB of RAM plus an optional 4 Mb of serial flash memory. They also integrate Lockbox security for code and content protection and support sixteen stereo I2S digital-audio channels, twelve peripheral DMA channels, and an advanced memory controller. Each includes two dual-channel synchronous serial communication ports, a high-speed parallel peripheral interface, I2C compatible two-wire interface, dual PC-compatible UARTs, and two SPI-compatible serial peripheral interface ports. Depending on the device, power consumption ranges from 16.5 mW to 415 mW. Sampling now, prices for the BF512, BF514, BF516, and BF518 are $4.95, $7.75, $8.75, and $11.85 each/25,000, respectively.
