The MAX15031, a constant-frequency step-up converter, targets low-voltage systems that require a locally-generated high voltage. Operating from a 2.7V to 11V supply, the device delivers an output voltage up to 76V at 300 mW of power without an external voltage doubler. Employing a BiCMOS process technology enables it to integrate a high-side current monitor with a 1-?s current limiting, making it suitable for applications such as avalanche photodiode biasing, PIN biasing, and varactor biasing in fiber modules. The MAX15031 relies on a peak-current-mode PWM architecture with a fixed switching frequency of 400 kHz to produce a low-noise output. The onboard current monitor offers three decades of dynamic range and monitors current from 500 nA to 4 mA. Available in a 16-pin TQFN package measuring 4 mm x 4 mm with an operating temperature range from -40?C to +125?C, price starts at $1.65 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA.
