Ceramic-Base Directional Couplers Span A 1-MHz To 1-GHz Frequency Range

Dec. 1, 2002

The market for directional couplers wound on dual aperture ferrite cores now includes a series targeting RF circuitry, broadband, mobile radio, and satellite TV applications. Designated the GLSL, the new, compact couplers employ a ceramic base, with Model GLSL20D102, a 20-dB device, operating from 1 MHz to 1 GHz and having a typical insertion loss of less than 0.5 dB from 2 MHz to 1 GHz. Directivity typically exceeds 10 dB from 1 MHz to 1 GHz, while the operating temperature range is -40ºC to +125ºC. The coupler, like wideband transformers and baluns wound in the dual aperture configuration, is suitable for automatic insertion on SMT boards and can be reflow or vapor phase soldered. Terminals, formed on the ceramic base from the ends of the coil windings, eliminate the need for any solder joints between coil and terminals that could open from the heat of circuit assembly. Price: $1.20 each. SPRAGUE-GOODMAN ELECTRONICS INC., Westbury, NY. (516) 334-8700.
