Geared for use on Pentium IV and K7 Athlon motherboards, the FAN5093 two-phase controller claims to exceed three-phase efficiency by greater than 10%. Operating from a single 12V supply, the device incorporates the company's Programmable active Droop technology, claiming to achieve a 100 ns transient response while requiring minimal output capacitance. An integrated five-bit VID d/a converter allows dynamic adjustment of the output voltage between 1.1V and 1.85V. An E* mode is included to allow designers to meet Energy-Star power conservation guidelines. The device comes in a 24-pin TSSOP and an evaluation board is available. Price is $3.75 each/1,000.
