Emerging as the industry’s only multi-channel direct digital synthesis (DDS) devices, the 4-channel AD9959 and 2-channel AD9958 eliminate the need for several single-channel DDS chips and external circuitry, yielding board space reductions up to 75%. Should more channels be needed, the chips can be daisy chained. Each independently programmable channel contains a 10-bit d/a converter and provides 14-bits of phase offset tuning, a 32-bit frequency resolution, and 10-bit amplitude control. The chips are optimized for applications that require high-speed synthesis at frequencies up to 200 MHz and exhibit a power consumption of less than 165 mW per channel. Other shared features include support for direct or linear sweep modulation, a channel isolation of greater than 60 dB, sampling rates up to 500 Msamples/s, and a 32-bit frequency tuning word that allows channel resolutions of 116 mHz or less. Prices for the AD9959 and AD9958 are $37.14 and $20.24 each/1,000, respectively. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643
