Development Kit Enables Real-Time Energy Profiling

A development kit for the company’s EFM32 Gecko MCU family provides an advanced energy monitoring (AEM) system. Via a large LCD and preconfigured GUI, AEM enables users to accurately view a prototype’s current consumption in real time, enabling early identification and removal of adverse energy drains. Modular in design, the development kit includes a motherboard, plug-in MCU card with or without a 160-segment LCD, and a plug-in prototyping card. Based on an ARM Cortex M3 architecture, the target EFM32G MCU running at 3V consumes less than 180 µA per MHz in executing code from flash. Support is via a software library built on ARM's standard CMSIS abstraction layer, IAR's Embedded Workbench, and Keil's MDK-ARM Microcontroller Development Kit.
