Device Bay Connectors Ease PC Upgrading

Aug. 1, 1999

Simplified PC upgrades are made possible by Device Bay Connector Systems, a series of 1.27-mm products that give OEMs the flexibility to add or share a wide range of peripheral devices. These include: CD, DVD and hard drives; smart card readers; network cards; and digital modems. The connectors are hot-plug and blind-mate capable. A leaf-style contact interface helps prevent stubbing. And staggered contact pin lengths enable two-level matings. The interconnect system includes a host receptacle for a pc board panel or backplane, a plug for the removable device, a signal plug and signal cable-assembly pair for links between motherboard and backplane, a power cable receptacle, and signal and power connectors.
