Differential Backplane Connector Handles Speeds Of Up To 5 Gb/s

March 1, 2001

Introduced as an extension of the company's IEC 61076-4-101 Hard Metric connector family, the ERmetZD differential, board-to-backplane connector provides a differential solution for applications involving transmission speeds in the range of 3 to 5 Gb/s. Said to easily integrate into existing backplane and subrack designs based on Hard Metric, cPCI or Eurocard standards, the new connector shares with Hard Metric connectors mechanial design features such as key-layout dimensions, pin heights, sequential-mating dimensions, plastic coding keys, and press-fit hole requirements. The connector also boasts of low cross talk, low skew, improved trace routing, reliable dual beam contacts, 1.5-mm mating intervals, and a rugged housing.
Initially, the ERmetZD connectors are being offered in a 25-mm module with 40, 30 and 20 differential pairs, with each 100 ohm differential pair acting as a transmission line with its own coupled reference ground to control impedance and minimize connector noise. Optional components include electrical evaluation boards, mechanical CAD models, both SPICE and S-Parameter electrical models, insertion tooling, and test reports. Price is approximately $ 0.20 to $0.25 per mated signal line, depending on quantity.
