Unveiled as the industry’s most highly integrated digital-input serializer, the SN65HVS882 converts eight digital inputs, ranging from 0V to 34V, into a single data stream over a SPI interface. This promises to simplify design chores while reducing board space by as much as 60%. Several SN65HVS882 eight-channel serializers can be cascaded through an integrated SPI port, reducing both the isolation channels and controller pins required for high-channel-count input modules. An integrated programmable de-bounce feature filters out spurious pulses up to 3 ms on noisy switch inputs, eliminating the need for external components or software. The device also includes a voltage regulator that converts the industrial 10V to 34V field voltage to a 5V level and operates over a temperature range from -40°C to +125°C. Additionally, its adjustable input current limit allows the use of a single resistor to set the maximum input current in the range of 200 mA to 5 mA. Available now in a 28-pin HTSSOP, pricing is $3 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
