Promising brighter displays with minimal power, the D381A electroluminescent lamp (EL) driver is based on the companyÕs patented three-port topology. A unique aspect of this topology allows users to ground one of the two lamp electrodes to improve EMI management. Operating from a 2 Vdc to 7 Vdc supply, the device is said to deliver an efficient and low-noise ac output. Dual on-chip oscillators allow independent selection of inductor switching and lamp output via external capacitors or with external clock signals. A designer kit is available that contains the chip, a lamp, pre-soldered boards, and several values of surface-mount external components. The D381A driver comes in either a MSOP-8 or MSOP-10.
