Development Kit Enables Design Of 68HC11-Based Systems With ISP
The DK900-HC11 development kit enables the design of 68HC11-based systems that require in-system programming during system operation, also known as in-application programming (IAP). This development kit provides the two Flash memory arrays required for IAP. It also supplies hardware and software that allow for quick design of IAP applications and a readily usable platform for code development.

As a component of the development kit, the development board itself includes a low-cost 68HC11 core minicontroller, a PSD9XXX, a 16-character LCD display, a power switch, and a UART serial port. In addition, a JTAG programming port connects directly to the PSD9XXX ISP-JTAG interface, reset button, and DIP switch. For functional annunciation and additional SRAM, respectively, two LEDs and pads are also connected to the JTAG port.

The DK900-HC11 development kit contains the 68HC11-based development board, FlashLINK programmer and cables, null modem serial cable, power supply, manual, and CD-ROM software complete with tutorials and JTAG-based ISP examples.

SBC Supports Both High-Drive ISA And PCI Buses At 66 And 100 MHz
The NuPRO-770 single-board computer (SBC), based on the Intel embedded 810 chip set, supports both high-drive ISA and PCI buses. Following an open-design philosophy, this SBC uses an Intel Socket 370 Celeron or Pentium III CPU and 82559 10/100Base-TX Ethernet/Fast Ethernet interface.

Bus speeds of both 66 and 100 MHz are supported. Also, the SBC supports two 168-pin DIMM sockets with up to 512-Mbyte SDRAM. Up to four E-IDE devices and Flash disks can be supported by the IDE interface. Other features of the SBC include two USB ports, a floppy interface, a parallel port, and two serial ports (RS-232 and RS-232/422/485 selectable).

The NuPRO-770 costs $299 in quantities of ten (no CPU nor memory). OEM discounts are available through the company.

Compact Server Accommodates SBC With Dual Pentium III Processors
The IPC-601 thin server offers high storage capacity in a 1U form factor. The server, available with dual Pentium III processor single-board computers (SBCs), is designed for Internet/ intranet server applications. Up to 42 servers can be racked in one 42U cabinet. Three drive bays can accommodate a slim floppy-disk drive, CD-ROM drives, and 3.5-in. hard-disk drives. Additionally, the server supports up to 1 Gbyte of SDRAM.

This server supports Windows NT and 2000, Linux, Sun Solaris, Open Server, OS/2, and NetWare. Also, management and development tools may be supported as required. In addition, custom configurations, preload applications, and operating software are available. According to the company, the server is designed for applications such as ISPs, ASPs, e-mail servers, and web servers.

NIC Provides Upgrade Path And Fast Ethernet Connectivity Within LANs
The PMC/Fast Ethernet/21143 network interface card (NIC) offers fast Ethernet connectivity for local area networks (LANs). Equipped with the Intel 21143 Ethernet controller, this NIC allows for migrations from Intel 21140 designs with minimal software driver considerations. Using the Ethernet 10/100Base-Tx protocol, it can be used to populate the PMC expansion slots on a single-board computer (SBC).

The device features a wide operating- temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. A standard RJ45 connector eliminates the need for adapter cables. Also, a 1-kbyte SROM is employed in the storage of Ethernet addresses and system parameters. The card enables communications speeds of 100 Mbits/s without major infrastructure change. Automatic configuration between 10 and 100 Mbits/s allows the NIC to match the speed of the attached network or host device.

The PMC/Fast Ethernet/21143 NIC is scheduled for release at the end of the year. The device will be priced at $210 in volume.

Embedded Compilers Mix Both Low Voltage And Power Consumption
The low-voltage Custom-Touch ASAP line of embedded memory compilers consumes low power. These devices can operate at 1.2 V ±10% on the 0.18 TSMC Mainstream process. They also are functional down to 0.9 V.

A proprietary reference timing circuit called TimeKeeper ensures accuracy in timing-path operation by gating the control signals to the sense amplifiers. This device allows the embedded compilers to track memory size, voltage, temperature, and process variations. The result is low-voltage compilers with low power consumption and low leakage current. They can also operate on the TSMC LV and LP processes.

Available now, pricing for the ASAP LV embedded memory compilers begins at $165,000 for a single node-locked license.

CompactPCI Processor Board Offers Extended Temperature Range
The cPRO3XT 3U CompactPCI processor board, based on the 333-MHz AMD K6-2, offers an extended temperature range. It boasts an operating-temperature range of −40°C to 70°C and a nonoperating-temperature range of −40°C to 80°C. With up to 128 Mbytes of EDO DRAM, 512 kbytes of level 2 cache, and up to 144 Mbytes of Flash disk-on-chip, it offers speeds up to 333 MHz.

Features available on the board include keyboard and mouse ports, parallel port, serial ports, USB port, floppy, and IDE. Compatible with industry-standard PC hardware and software, the cPRO3XT uses an Ali Aladdin IV chip set and a choice of Socket 7 processors for optimum speed selection. Low-power Pentium processors are available at 166 and 266 MHz. AMD K6-2 processors are supported at 333 MHz. The board is available from the factory with up to 128 Mbytes of SDRAM.

The cPRO3XT is now available at $1688 in OEM quantities.
