Targeting compact embedded applications, the Z8 Encore! line is now available with 1- and 4-kbyte flash memory and 1 kbyte of RAM. The chips feature a 5-MHz eZ8 processor with an on-chip oscillator, an eight-channel 10-bit analog-to-digital converter, a UART port with an IrDA encoder/decoder, dual pulse-width modulation timers, up to 24 bits of GPIO with interrupts, and single-pin flash programming. The 1-kbyte device costs $0.85 and is available in a 20-pin SOIC package. Extended temperature-range versions are available. The boards do not require a fan.
