Adhering to a lead-free design, the 6238 and 6292 series flexible printed circuit (FPC) and flat flexible cable (FFC) connectors are designed to provide an environmentally-friendly means of making board-to-board and board-to-display connections. The connectors are available in either flip-lock (6238 series) or slide-type (6292 series) versions and provide right-angle, zero insertion force (ZIF) connections. And with 0.5-mm pitch contacts and a 1.1-mm profile (applicable FPC thickness is 0.3 mm), the connectors are said to reduce the mounting area by as much as 42% compared to existing products. Both series are rated for 0.4A at 50V maximum and provide from five to 50 multi-polar positions. The 6238 series uses a bottom contact, while the 6292 series provides a top contact connection. Price for a 20-pin 6238 connector is $0.42 each/10,000; an 18-pin 6292 costs $0.52. AVX CORP, Myrtle Beach, SC. (843) 946-0414.
