Adding a layer of versatility, the MC9S08LC60 (LC60) family of 8-bit microcontrollers is the company's first to integrate LCD driver modules with internal charge pumps. The MCUs support 3V and 5V large-segment LCDs with up to 160 (4x40) segments. The LCD drivers can operate a display even when the MCU core enters stop or sleep mode. Individual segments blink in stop mode, a feature that reduces overall system-power consumption. Based on an S08 MCU core operating at 1.8V to 3.6V, the devices also integrate a set of communications peripherals, dual flash memory arrays for enhanced EEPROM emulation, and a programmable timer. For support, a comprehensive set of tools is available including the Processor Expert application-design tool, CodeWarrior Special Edition for HC(S)08/RS08, a demonstration board, compiler, debugger, initialization tool, samples, documentation, and application notes for the demo board. Currently available are the MCS08LC60 and MCS08LC36 in 80-pin LQFPs with 64-pin devices planned for the second quarter. Prices start at $3.70 and $3.14 each/10,000, respectively. Demonstration kits are priced at $59 each. FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR INC., Austin, TX. (800) 521-6274.
