GUI-Based Tools Optimize Application-Software Development

Aug. 10, 2007
Continuum Insights from Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing targets developers of software for multi-computer embedded systems, whether on single or multiple boards.

Continuum Insights, a suite of GUI-based software tools from Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, eases and optimizes the development of application software for multi-computer embedded systems. Based on the Eclipse Development and Application Framework, the suite gives developers the information they need to accurately tune their systems and speed time-to-market. It also includes an Event Analysis Tool and a System Monitoring Tool. The package expands upon the Wind River System Viewer tool for event analysis in multi-processor systems, enabling the analysis of multiple multicore processors, both on a single board and across multiple boards.

Furthermore, Continuum Insights enables system developers to make time-aligned comparisons of the effect of events occurring on multiple processors, significantly reducing the time required to debug their system. It captures the race conditions, or interaction between multiple processors, easing and speeding the identification and correction of events that occur in the wrong sequence. The tools give application programmers greater visibility into their entire system by collecting and displaying critical, periodic, non-intrusive, real-time data. Using a GUI format, Continuum Insights presents this information hierarchically, allowing intuitive navigation that lets developers quickly find any source of potential problems within the system. It also permits various levels of precisely time-aligned event information to be displayed across the system's processors and cores, enabling visualization and analysis of processor interactions.
