A line of high-brightness, oval-shaped LED lamps comes in red, green, and blue versions, making them well-suited for full-color outdoor stadium scoreboards, electronic billboards, variable display signs, and traffic signals and signs. The HLMP-xx61 series LED lamps from Avago Technologies have a very smooth, matched radiation pattern to ensure consistent color mixing in full-color applications. The lamps come in 5-mm (HLMP-Hx61) and 4-mm (HLMP-Lx61) through-hole versions. Colors include red (AlInGaP, 630 nm), green (InGaN, 525 nm), and blue (InGaN, 470 nm).

A range of viewing angles is also available: 30° by 70°, generally used for long-distance viewing in applications like traffic signals, 40° by 100° for wide-angle applications like stadium scoreboards and other message signs, and 50° by 100° in a 4-mm package, which is well-suited for tight pixel-pitch applications in indoor signs. Operating temperature range is -40°C to 100°C for the AlInGaP devices and -40°C to 85°C for the InGaN devices. The lamps come in the company's precision optical-performance molded packages, modified for higher current input and increased heat dissipation. The die is attached within the reflector cavity, and the cavity is encapsulated by a proprietary ultraviolet-resistant epoxy blend. The packaging and materials allow the wide temperature range and protection from ultraviolet radiation and humidity.

The HLMP-xx61 LED lamps cost $0.15 (red) and $0.31 (green and blue) in 100,000-piece quantities. Samples and production quantities are available with a four-week lead time. For more information, go to www.avagotech.com/led.
