In a single, 56-lead QFN package measuring 8 mm x 8 mm, the JN5121 wireless microcontroller complies with both IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee standards. The device combines a 32-bit RISC core, 2.4-GHz transceiver, 64 KB of ROM, and 96 KB of RAM. It requires an additional crystal oscillator, flash memory, decoupling components, and a printed antenna for operation. Other features include an integrated hardware MAC, sleep oscillator and power saving facilities, and a range of industry-standard peripherals and interfaces. Control is via SPI or UART interfaces and debugging is performed via a second UART port. Protocol software, coordinator, and endpoint device evaluation boards, and software-development tools are also available.
