Enhancing the SurefeeLED line, the SML-LX15 series LEDs in a SOT-23 package claim to avoid the high IR reflow soldering failure rates associated with early generation SOT-13 SMT LEDs. Using a miniature circuit board as the LEDs' foundation, rather than a standard lead frame, appears to have solved the problem. The result is a SOT-23 package that can withstand peak solder-temperature dwell times that are 2.5 times longer than conventional SOT-23s.
