Designers using MPC5200 embedded processors with a PowerPC core now have access to a hardware and software package for developing applications running on Linux. The software consists of Metrowerks' Linux Board Support Package (BSP), which works with the Metrowerks Linux Platform Creation Suite (PCS) and Code Warrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The PCS promises easy customization of the Linux operating system for embedded devices, while the IDE is used as an intuitive and visual application development tool for embedded Linux environments. The Lite5200 evaluation board includes a Metrowerks WireTap probe for debug, 16 MB of flash memory, 64 MB SDRAM, and Ethernet, USB, PCI, serial, I2C, and CAN interfaces. Lite5200 costs $995 and BSP is downloadable free of charge at Metrowerks' web site, cited above. MOTOROLA INC., Austin, TX. (512) 895-2000.
