Low-Cost Controller Eyes Embedded Apps

Nov. 1, 2000

Introduced as a low-cost product, the Jackrabbit high-performance single-board computer (SBC) provides a full range of I/O, memory and communications ports. Measuring only 2.5" x 3.5", Jackrabbit is compact enough for embedded control applications. The card is powered by the Rabbit 2000 µP, which includes on-chip peripherals and is said to be well suited for machine control and applications that normally call for a Basic STAMP or PIC controller. Software is developed using Dynamic C, in an integrated C language development package that includes an interactive compiler, editor and debugger. The close integration of hardware and software is claimed to reduce development time and costs. The card has a starting price of $49, and a development kit costs $139.
