The MSP430FG47x series of microcontrollers is designed to help create smaller, smarter portable medical devices with very low power consumption. The MCUs offer on-chip integration of the complete signal chain, reducing design complexity and delivering significant space and cost savings. The devices incorporate two configurable op amps, a 12-bit digital-to-analog converter, a comparator, and a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter. A 128-segment LCD driver with contrast control can be used for a diagnostic display. Multiple memory options allow up to 60 kbytes of flash memory and 2 kbytes of RAM for easy programmability. Package options include an 80-pin QFP or 113-ball BGA that measures 7.1 by 7.1 mm. The FG47x MCUs are available now for $5.50 in quantities of 1000. They are fully compatible with the $149 MSP-FET430U100 and $99 MSP-FET430UIF flash emulation tools kits. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS, Dallas, TX. (619) 398-9700.
