Microphone Socket Targets Cellular Phones

March 1, 2002

A two-position surface-mount microphone socket has been developed for cellular phones. Designed for bottom entry, the microphone plugs through the circuit board into the socket on the opposite side. This design achieves a low microphone profile suitable for Òshirt pocketÓ sized phones. The primary benefit of the socket, according to the company, is that the precision-machined receptacles have a large entry target, which permits automatic insertion of the microphone during final assembly of the phone. Sockets are supplied on 12 mm wide tape to feed industry standard pick-and-place assembly machines. MILL-MAX MANUFACTURING. CORP., Oyster Bay, NY. (516) 922-6000 ext. 211.
