Miniature Coaxial Connector Boosts Design Flexibility In Mobile Devices

May 11, 2006
Miniature HSC series advanced board connectors and cable assemblies provide a low profile (0.6-mm height and 1.2-mm maximum mated height) in a 2.0- by 2.0-mm package.

Murata Electronics recently introduced what it claims is the world’s smallest coaxial connector.

The Miniature HSC series connector is meant to increase design flexibility in mobile devices such as cellular and cordless phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), global positioning satellite (GPS) devices, wireless LANs, and microwave test equipment. The advanced board connectors and cable assemblies provide a low profile (0.6-mm height and 1.2-mm maximum mated height) in a 2.0- by 2.0-mm package. Various cable configurations and lengths are available.

The miniature connectors have a wide operating frequency (DC to 6 GHz), low insertion loss, and are RoHS-compliant. Test probes are available to interface with the cable or connector to confirm signal integrity. A disengagement tool to remove the cable from the board-mounted connector is also available.

AVAILABILITY
Miniature HSC Series coaxial cables are now available. Lead time is approximately eight to 10 weeks. PRICING
Murata’s new coaxial cable series is offered at approximately $0.17 for the board connector (global part number MM4829-2700) and between $0.75 and $1.50 for the cable (global part number MXHK98) depending on the configuration.FOR MORE INFORMATION
