Modem Software Is V.90-Compliant

Implemented in ANSI C and running as a software modem on a Pentium platform, GAO V.90 is a new version of firm's 56k PCM modem software that complies with the International Telecommunications Union standard. The company is porting the product to other platforms, including boards based on Texas Instruments' and Analog Devices' DSPs, as well as MIPS, ARM and other RISC processors. The V.90 technology takes advantage of the fact that digital transmission facilities are replacing analog facilities on the Public Switched Telephone Network. Internet service providers are digitally connected both to the Internet and a telephone company's central office, resulting in data rates of up to 56 kbps downstream and 33.6 kbps upstream.
