Monolithic powers 23V sync step-down regulators

Oct. 27, 2005
From 1A to 3A current rating, regulators simplify migration and offer up to 95% efficiency through FETS and fixed switching.

Monolithic Power Systems has introduced the MP2309 and MP2307 23V synchronous step-down regulators. With an output current rating of 1A and 3A respectively, the MP2309 and MP2307 are pin compatible with the 2A MP2305, forming a power management solution that can scale from 1A to 3A without circuit board re-design.

Their operating input voltage range is 4.75V to 23V. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.9V to 20V using external resistors, which have the same footprint for all three modules.

The MP2309 and MP2307 have internal synchronous power FETs and fixed switching frequency of 340kHz resulting in up to 95% efficiency. Inrush start-up current is controlled using the externally adjustable soft-start feature. These converters are said to be the smallest high voltage synchronous step-down regulators on the market, each fitting within an 8-pin SOIC package.

In shutdown, the MP2309 draws 1µA maximum. The MP2307 reduces quiescent current to 0.3µA in shutdown. Both have safety features including thermal shutdown, short circuit and under voltage lockout protection, and operate in ambient temperatures of -40ºC to +85ºC. Samples and evaluation boards are available immediately. Pricing for the MP2309 and MP2307 in 1,000 piece quantities is US$1.51 and US$2.04 respectively.
